Successful Elk Hunt

Hunting season is in full force!!! 2 Tags have been filled, and 2 more to go! Today was the opening of the Muzzleloader Elk hunt for me. I didn't draw a big bull tag, but I drew out for a Cow Elk, which will provide our family with the Best meat around. We started the hunt this morning and there were Elk Bugling all day long. We followed them for 3.5 hours and a few miles in, until we finally got close enough to shoot. There were Bull Elk Bugling, screaming and making so much noise that they didn't even know we were there. When a shot was presented at about 80 yards, I took it and the Elk went down where it stood. She was one of the 70-80 Elk in the herd. This elk weighed anywhere from 600-700 lbs. It was a fun and exciting hunt with the amazing experience of being with Elk in their natural habitat. They are beautiful animals in every way. Thanks to Derick, my father and sister who helped with the hunt and packing out the meat. Now we'll have plenty of Elk meat for another year.
